RUNVA ELECTRIC WINCHES MAINTENANCE GUIDE
NOTE
This is compulsory maintenance. If you choose not to follow these steps your warranty may be void.
If you look after your winch it will perform flawlessly when you need it most. A well used winch is a reliable winch.
There is a common misconception that the less you use your winch the more reliable it should be because it’s done
very little work. Winches that sit unused for long periods of time are the ones that generally give problems as parts
can seize up over time.
WHAT TO DO AND WHEN
EVERY 4-6 WEEKS
- Put the winch into free-spool and pull the cable/ rope out down to the last layer. (Keep a full tightly wrapped layer on the drum).
- Winch the cable/rope back in with some tension on it. This will help keep all the parts moving and is the most vital part of any winch maintenance routine.
- Check that all the electrical connections are clean and tight.
REMEMBER TO TURN OFF YOUR ISOLATOR SWITCH
AFTER WINCHING THE ROPE BACK IN.
EVERY 12 MONTHS
This is to be done as well as your regular 4-6 week maintenance schedule.
- Check that all the electrical connections on the winch motor is clean and tight. If there are any signs of corrosion on the terminals, simply clean it off. You want to have a proper look and not just the quick visual like you would with the 4–6 week maintenance.
- If any of the terminals are loose, tighten them up as this could potentially cause motor failure.
- You can even seal the terminals with CRC Soft Seal after cleaning them to make sure they stay clean and corrosion free.
- If your vehicle battery is a few years old, make sure to get it tested to ensure it is still in top working condition. If you operate the winch with an inadequate battery you could damage your winch and void the warranty. Remember that we recommend a battery no smaller than 750CCA.
EVERY 24 MONTHS
- A full inspection of the motor and gearbox internals. (This does require the winch to be removed from the vehicle).
- At this point the motor brushes can be replaced if worn, seals inspected/replaced and any dirt cleaned out if present.
- The gearbox grease only needs to be replaced if there are signs of contamination.
CLEANING YOUR WINCH
Never directly pressure clean your winch. Rather use a hose and sponge brush.
REMEMBER
If you choose not to do any of the maintenance steps mentioned above and you experience a product fault which is clearly linked to no maintenance, your warranty may be void.
If you run the motor regularly, nearly 99% of all potential issues can be avoided and your winch will work like new for years to come.
